Karl “Uncle Yo” Custer, LMSW, is Zenkaikon’s home-grown emcee and geek-specific stand-up comedian. You’ll see him at the Charity Auction, the Cosplay Masquerade, and very loudly at the farmer’s market next door. From 2007-2017, he nationally toured conventions with his high-energy rantcore style of stand-up comedy, presenting fan panels like “Magical Girl Bootcamp” and “Surviving a Mecha Attack.” His swansong album is still on Spotify, “Hi, I’m New And Dumb,” and his 75-episode supernatural detective podcast series, Chroniclers of Darkness is still on his Youtube Channel. Now armed with a social work license, this previously produced playwright/puppeteer/podcaster proposes to pilot programming using anime and gaming to illustrate mental health, social justice and nerd-powerment. His lectures now include “Adolescent Trauma Recovery & Naruto,” “Batman vs Just Us,” and this year, probably something about anxiety in media. Game on. Do good. Be good.
