...Square had a nack for making a game's storyline just interesting enough that people will play the game, no matter how crappy it plays. LOL.
Personally, I liked nine, because it had a wonderful story line, and the system in it was simple and uncomplicated.
You battle random monsters, you level up, you equip weaponry (that sometimes gave you extra abilities if you used the same equipment long enough), the 'fiends' drop money and sometimes items... the basic kind of rpg.
X... had that weird skill board thing, that irritates me to no end to this day. The same with XII. Along with XII, though, monsters drop LOOT, and you have to sell that, to get your money, and sometimes, it's not even a sure deal that they'll drop stuff. So it takes 10x longer to get the equipment you need. x.x;
